Re: Downwind sailing: Twin jibs with furled main

Tom,

I just found the SSS site and have been reading about the TP Race... some great info! I couldn't find a blog or website for your boat? have you written about your experience anywhere online?

Cheers

Matt

Re: Downwind sailing: Twin jibs with furled main

G'day Tom, Hey thanks for replying. Great insight to how effective the twin jibs can be on a folkboat. Sounds like a you had a realtively good run and the trade winds blew in the right direction - happy days!! I'd love to hear more about your trip. Have you set up a blog or anything? My email is ...

G'day Tom, I've been wondering about exactly the same question. I spoke to a rigger who said that, in general, a folkboat with normal rig setup should not need running backstays. But at that time I did not think to ask him about the scenario with twin headsail or Twistle Rig. Anyone know about the ...

Hi David, I have a 6Hp Hi-Thrust Yamaha 4s/t outboard. Its a little heavy for my liking at 50kg but it will run my M26 into head wind and small sea's at 5-6 knots without working too hard. On flat water, it will quietly move the boat at 6 knots on 1/4 throttle and use less than 1 litre of fuel ...

headstay backing plate

Hi Folks, I have a problem with my M26 headstay backing plate and am looking for ideas. My boat has a piece of marine plywood (approx 150mm(W) x 300mm(L) x 10mm (H)) running port to starboard beneath the bow foredeck. It's hard to get access to it (anchor locker is in the way) but it seems to be ...

G'day Ysmael, I thought about what you said about fitting another bulkhead and went down to my boat for a look. The issue for me is that we sleep in the V-Berth at anchor and I am 6ft4 so my feet go all the way to the bow and another bulkhead would get in the way. I saw an idea in a book where a ...

Heave to

I've been trying a few Heave-to options in my M26 in moderate winds on the Lakes. In about 15-18 knots I find it best to have 1 reef (2 also works very well) in my main and furl my Jib to about 90%. The boat will jog along nicely on her own without lashing the tiller and move at about 2-3 knots. I ...

Stella Mira

Hey Ysmael, Cheers for the link! I've been reading through the letters and stories. Some great reading. They certainly came up against some challenging conditions during the trip. I'm guessing you've already seen the website of ARIEL folkboat that took place in the ARC. Here's the link for anyone ...

Hove-To in a Folkboat.

G'day Folks, I'm new to this fantastic forum. We recently purchased a M26 from Sydney and sailed it down the east coast of Australia to our home port in the beautiful Gippsland Lakes in Victoria. The trip was approx 400 miles which we completed in 3 seperate sessions (Brooklyn to Jervis Bay 24hours ...

Solent Stays

G'day Ysmael, Just wondering if you could give some feedback on how the Solent Stay fitting is going? Have you tried it yet? What size backing plate did you use and did you check with a rigger if the foredeck would tolerate the loads in a blow? I'm new to Forum. I just recently bought a fantastic ...
