What size / type of hatch seal do I need?

Hello everyone,

I have just removed the old seal on my forehatch and need to replace it.

What size / type / shape of seal is best to use? I have removed a round seal but I'm not sure if that is correct.

Thanks,

James

My boat was originally equipped with a round seal, with empty middle, similar to a " rubber hose ".

I think the best is to find a homogenous round seal of proper dimension and elasticity to have it to fit in the row and not too stiff allowing for the hatch to close without gaps. It could be tricky to find. I found mine replacement in a car equipment store.

What is the seal that you show on the last picture ? It lookes like round homogenous. Does it fit ?

My original seal was a hollow rubber round seal as well.

Some posters on this forum reported success with a 20mm solid (as in non-hollow) round rubber seal but when I bought one it was too thick for my hatch to close properly. I would have had to raise the hinges from the deck with spacers to make it work. I ended up getting a 18mm solid round seal that I have been happy with.

I got it off of Amazon where such seals can be found when searching for "epdm round rubber" or similar.

Thanks all - I’ve ordered 3 metres of 16mm EDPM foam. Slightly smaller than the old one which was a bit too big.
